The eight Gatsby Benchmarks are the foundation of the Government's careers strategy, a statutory requirement for secondary schools and colleges.

In order to support students, the College has based its Careers Strategy around the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks:

1. A stable Careers Programme
Our College has an embedded programme of career education and guidance and we work hard to ensure it is known and understood by students, parents/carers, schools and employers.

2. Learning from career and labour market information
Every student and their parents/carers have access to good quality information about future study options and employment opportunities. They will receive support from an informed adviser to make the best use of available information.

3. Addressing the needs of each student
Students have different career guidance needs at different stages. Opportunities for advice and support need to be tailored to the needs of each individual. Each careers programme should have embed equality and diversity considerations throughout.

4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
All tutors link curriculum learning with careers. For example, STEM subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths.

5. Encounters with employers and employees
Every student will have the opportunity to learn from 5-6 employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visitor speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes.

6. Experiences or workplaces
All students should have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help improve their knowledge of the sector of interest and their exploration of career opportunities in their chosen sector.

7. Encounters with further and higher education
Each student should understand the full range of learning opportunities that are available to them. This includes both academic and vocational routes and learning at college, university and in the workplace.

8. Personal Guidance
Students should have the opportunity for guidance interviews with a careers adviser (either a member of staff or external advisor trained to appropriate level). These should be available whenever significant study or career choices are being made and should be timed to meet students individual needs.

The Careers Team will help:

Provide opportunities to work placements and employer contacts in preparation to work

Assist students to  help meet their work placement target hours

Students find work placements to help them find their right job role with support from Employers

Students can hear first-hand from businesses across all sectors about exciting opportunities and job roles
