Warpaint Awards Success for Theatrical Make-Up students

Date: 16 March 2017

Continuing their winning streak, East Surrey College Hair & Beauty department took home an impressive 6 awards at this year’s Warpaint Make-Up Championships. The Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects & Media Make-Up students impressed the judges with originality, use of colour and interpretation of the themes to create award winning impact. The Hair & Beauty department was especially pleased to have won either first or second place in the Runway Category for the fifth year!

Rhianne Gallagher won second place in the Real Beauty category and the Rising Star Award as she showed true professionalism and commitment in completing the competition, even though she started an hour late due to her car breaking down! Rhianne managed to complete the first look ‘Spring Wedding’ in a record 30 minutes, impressing the judges with her calm, organised manner and quick work.

Jessica Curtis wowed the judges, taking first place in the Runway category with her interpretation of the theme ‘Iconic British Designers’. And not wishing to be left out, tutor Cindy Ellingham stole second place in the Pro Category Film and TV with her amazing interpretation of the theme ‘French Revolution’.

With the theme of ‘Mesmerising Eyes’, Robyn Starks won first place in the #InstaWarpaint photographic competition. Her winning image was used for promoting the winners on social media. East Surrey College tutor Karen Fundell commented:

“Robyn’s make-up execution with ‘crease cut’ on the eyes was outstanding, especially as the image was shot so close up, you could not fault the make-up,”

Fiona McFarlane took third place in #InstaWarpaint with her Egyptian inspired make-up. Head Judge Maria Malone-Guerbaa – TV and film make-up artist, was very impressed with the standard of entries.

This challenging and competitive event was excellent work place practice for the students who thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
