Back to the Floor for National Apprenticeship Week
Date: 10 March 2017
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, some of Gatwick Airport staff who originally started as Apprentices went back to the shop floor!
CEO of Gatwick Airport, Stewart Wingate, started his career as an Apprentice electrician fitter at 16. He said his Apprenticeship was the “bedrock of my career.” On his return to the shop floor, he was hosted by Gatwick Airport’s Engineering Apprentices including two East Surrey College students; Tom Charman – Electrical Engineering Apprentice and Luci Weatherill – Motor Engineering Apprentice.
Luci showed Stewart the Fire Appliance maintenance that she has been leading on while Tom showed him the stand-by power generator units on the airfield. You can watch the video to find out how the day went! https://t.co/fxeINpfZys
“Apprenticeship Programmes are incredibly important at Gatwick Airport and also more generally across industry” said Stewart, “they give young people an excellent way of getting vocational training, but also doing academic training as well.”
East Surrey College are proud to work in partnership with Gatwick Airport.
