ESC wins Third Annual Gold at the National BTEC Awards!

Date: 07 July 2021

The BTEC Awards is an annual competition celebrating the outstanding achievements of BTEC learners, tutors, teachers, schools and colleges around the world. Ahead of the Awards, tutors put forward the names of students who they think have shown outstanding commitment to their course, support for their peers or dedication to their career goals. For the second year in a row, the Awards took place virtually, with a globally live-streamed ceremony on Wednesday 7 July. The event was co-hosted by presenter of the United View, YouTube influencer and BTEC alumnus and ambassador Flex, and sports presenter and events host, Gemma Care.

A key highlight for ESC was winning a Gold Award for BTEC Public Services Learner of the Year for the third year in a row!

“I am extremely proud of our students’ achievements in what has been a challenging year. Our staff have gone above and beyond in their commitment to teaching and this has had a huge impact on the determination of our students to reach their full potential. These students represent our hard-working and committed student body and the Awards could not have gone to more deserving candidates. In particular, it is fantastic to see recognition for our Public Services department for the third year in a row and I am delighted with this continued success.”

The College’s Gold Winner, James, previously studied at Royal Alexandra & Albert School and was described by his tutor as “a role model to all of us” combining his determination at College with voluntary work as a Special Constable. He’ll be continuing his training with a fast track course to become a qualified Police Constable!

ALEX

Our Student Union Vice President Alex was delighted to win Silver, after choosing IT Level 3 to explore her passion for software development. She joined us from Congleton High School in Cheshire and regularly goes the extra mile to support others, in her role as Vice President and through her freelance design business.

FREYA

The second Public Services winner and former The Warwick School pupil Freya was proud to add her Bronze Certificate to the Silver she won last year. She is passionate about becoming a Paramedic and is already on track to her career goal by volunteering with a private Ambulance Service. As well as this voluntary role, she works part-time in a healthcare setting and has a prolific modelling career, which involves various fundraising projects.

GEORGIE

Second-time Bronze Winner and former Cheam High School pupil Georgie progressed from a Life Skills – SEND course and works part-time as a coach for a Premier League football club. Alongside running fitness sessions for his classmates, Georgie has also taken part in a range of enrichment activities and externally has featured in poster campaigns for charity Kidney Care UK. He has recently completed his Sport Level 2 qualification and will be progressing to Level 3 in September.

HOLLY

Holly, Bronze BTEC Sport Learner of the Year, aspires to become a PE Teacher and has enhanced her learning by coaching sports sessions for local schools, which has contributed to her FA Level 1 Coaching Badge. She has won several trophies at her local Football Club and will be progressing to the University of Brighton to study Physical Education BA (Hons) with QTS.
