National Apprenticeship Week Day 3

National Apprenticeship Week Day 3

Date: 05 February 2020

We're halfway through National Apprenticeship Week 2020, and today we welcomed visitors into the Engineering and Health & Social Care departments!

Our first employers of the day were international manufacturers Airborn International, who spoke to Engineering Level 2 students about a wide range of products, used across engine management systems and data collection equipment including aircraft engines, satellites and the Mars Rover! The Engineering students then heard from Viridor, a renewable energy and waste management company. Representatives introduced their brand new 4-year Apprenticeship programme and explained the processes involved in energy recovery from waste at their plant in Beddington near Croydon.

Health & Social Care Level 1 and 3 students then welcomed staff from Ashcroft Care Services, who gave an overview of the companies mission and values. Charlotte Cook, HR Director, also introduced the different career pathways within Ashcroft, including work placements, inviting the students to bring their skills into the workplace.

Dudley Burrell, Positive Behaviour Support Manager, spoke about the importance of young people working in care, saying:

"We want to get more young people involved in social care and dispel the myths about care work"

Outside of College, Richard Brooks, Business Development Manager, attended the West Sussex County Council Apprenticeship Fair, held at Crawley College. This was open to anyone wanting to find out more about Apprenticeships, the changes in funding and how to get an application started.

Today's question for our Apprentices was 'What are you enjoying about studying at ESC alongside your Apprenticeship? Here's what they said!

“It’s an adult environment.”
Alex, Carpentry Apprentice

“I have a small class so I enjoy the one to one support available.”
