Success at Young Writers Competition

Success at Young Writers Competition

Date: 28 April 2023

We recently hosted a Young Writers Awards ceremony celebrating the marvellous success of 54 of our students becoming published writers.

A cohort of GCSE English and Functional skills students recently took part in the long-established (since 1991) Young Writers Competition, which required them to write their own thrilling mini sagas relating to the theme “Integer – Stories Inspired By Numbers” in just 100 words.

In the lead-up to the deadline, tutors identified 54 students with exceptional written skills, and these were entered into the competition. The competition deadline was 17 December 2022 and in total over 15,000 entries were submitted nationally.

The Editors of the book looked for imagination, creativity, originality, use of language, and interpretation of the theme to decide who should be included in the publication.

Some of our students' titles included:

  • “The last 30 seconds”
  • “How I became number 45”
  • “The Unlucky Number”
