HR Apprenticeship - Sian

Former School: Collyer's College

Sian, like many others, had not heard much about the Apprenticeship pathway, but further research led her to to discover that [it was] something I was interested in and wanted to pursue a career in [and] offered an alternative to the University route.”

“You will finish the Apprenticeship with a qualification and the experience, which is something you will not get anywhere else. This is something I feel very passionate about because Apprenticeships are an amazing route to go down.”

She’s started her journey to career success with Schlumberger Oilfield PLC as an HR Apprentice, and is hoping to progress towards a senior HR role, training others and gaining a Level 7 qualification.

Sian enjoys the daily tasks she undertakes, such creating employee documents and answering general HR related queries, as these allow me to learn more about how employees are managed and how the HR functions all work together to ensure employees’ needs are met.”

Throughout the Apprenticeship, Sian is constantly learning new aspects of HR, which is supported by her training at College.

“This Apprenticeship offers the best of both worlds because we have hands-on training while gaining a great qualification on the side, I truly believe that there would be no better way to start a career in HR than getting an Apprenticeship”

The most challenging part of the Apprenticeship so far was adapting to remote working, but having done so for nearly year, Sian is "definitely used to it now, and I like the benefits which come with it, such as not having a commute to work."

She is grateful for the support of her tutor who "has been excellent and provided me with great HR training." Because of this, Sian has been able to progress onto a CIPD Level 5 course.

Sian also commented how she would recommend the apprenticeship route to anyone who is considering working but still in education.

"As the government has increased funding for apprenticeships, more companies and organisations are offering Apprenticeships in all different fields such as law, business, accountancy, etc. Which is a great alternative to University or full-time work because you will finish the apprenticeship with a qualification and experience, which is something you will not get anywhere else."

We offer a range of Apprenticeships; discover how to fire up your career with an Apprenticeship.
