Apprenticeship Funding & Grant Opportunities

The Government is encouraging thousands of employers to take part in the Apprenticeship scheme by supporting you with the training and wage cost of hiring an Apprentice. This offers a number of funding opportunities available to all industries and for Apprenticeships at all levels.

There are no training costs for hiring an Apprentice aged between 16-18, the full cost is covered by the Skills Funding Agency. If you are looking to hire Apprentices aged 19 and over there are grants that are available which would help cover training and wage costs (subject to eligibility).

You can claim a grant for a single Apprentice, provided they meet the individual qualifying criteria; and also claim for multiple Apprentices.

£1,500 grant available for 16-24 year old Apprentices

The Apprenticeship Grant for employers of 16 – 24 year-olds (AGE 16 – 24) was developed by the National Apprenticeship Service and offers you the opportunity to claim a grant of £1,500 when you take on a new Apprentice aged 16-24.

  • Open to employers who haven’t taken on an Apprentice in the last 12 months
  • Receive £1,500 per Apprentice and claim for up to 10 Apprentices
  • The grant is available for employers with up to 1,000 employees
  • You do not have to employ all Apprentices at once; you can make a claim for all subsequent Apprentices at any point during the time the grant is on offer.

More details about the AGE 16 – 24 grant can be found on the National Apprenticeship Service website or you can speak to a member of our team today.

Work based training

There are also funding schemes available to support those employers who are up-skilling their staff through work based qualifications. Work based training programmes may be fully funded, depending on an individual’s prior qualifications.
