Is an Apprenticeship Right for Me?

Do you want to study and get paid at the same time? If so then an Apprenticeship could be a great choice for you! You will study for a nationally recognised qualification while gaining on-the-job training.


Apprenticeship FAQs
 

  • You will work for an employer in a paid job.
  • 20% of your working week will be off-the-job training.
  • You will work a minimum of 30 hours a week including any time spent at College.
  • Apprentices are often offered a permanent position once training is completed.
  • Learning will take place at College, in the workplace or online.
  • You will be assessed in the workplace and there will be an end-point assessment (EPA).
  • You will also gain transferrable skills such as teamwork and time management. 
  • East Surrey College is one of the top FE College training providers in the South East. 
  • Our Employer Services Team can help you find an Apprenticeship with a local or national employer. 
  • We offer a wide range of Apprenticeships from Level 2 through to Degree Level.
  • The College is situated close to Redhill town centre with easy access from London and the South East.
  • We have excellent modern teaching facilities and industry experienced tutors.
  • You will benefit from support from both the College and your employer.
  • Our assessors will deliver assessments in the workplace and provide you with support and guidance throughout your Apprenticeship.
  • Your employer will support your training and pay you at least the National Minimum Wage
  • Many employers choose to pay substantially more. 
  • You will agree your salary and contract of employment with your employer.

You will not have to pay anything for your Apprenticeship as training costs are funded by the government and your employer.

If you’re working full time, you’ll have a minimum of 20 days paid holiday, plus 8 bank holidays.

  • Entry requirements vary but they are flexible.
  • You will need to show interest and commitment to the Apprenticeship you have chosen.
  • Typically you will need a minimum GCSE Grade 4 (C) in Maths and English.
  • In College, you will attend practical and theory classes.
  • You will also have one-to-one meetings with your assessor.

Apprenticeships can take between 12 and 48 months depending on the course.
