Vocational Studies could be the course for you:

  • If you’re not sure what you want to do after leaving school
  • If you know you want to go to college but are not sure which subject is right for you
  • If you lack confidence or motivation
  • If you missed out on applying for college and aren’t currently in education or employment
  • If you want to develop your skills and improve your chances of getting a job
  • If you need additional support before joining another full-time programme
  • Kick Start is a 29 week flexible full-time programme where you will gain accredited qualifications to help you to progress onto college courses and/or improve your route to employment or an apprenticeship
  • This course is ideal if you are currently working at Entry Level 3 or Level 1
  • Five qualifications make up the course including BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies and Entry Level 3 Functional Skills in English, ICT and Maths
  • Kick Start teaches you transferable skills that can be used in all future courses
  • You will also take part in taster sessions for various courses, talks with guest speakers and a range of team-building and enrichment trips


  • This is a full-time programme where you will gain an accredited qualification to help you improve your route to employment or an apprenticeship
  • This course will build your confidence and support you in making valuable links with employers
  • Students who complete this course will have a guaranteed interview with an employer
  • The main qualification is a BTEC Level 2 Award in Work Skills. You will also take part in an extended work placement with an employer suited to your career choice
  • If learners do not already hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will also study English and Maths
