The College is delighted to support National Careers Week 2021 by providing students with the opportunity to hear from industry experts and take part in virtual activities to support their chosen area of interest. Each day students are hearing from different employers and organisations and we will share highlights of these throughout the week on this page.
Monday 1 March 2021
Today we started #NationalCareersWeek with a talk from The British Library! Our Art students were so pleased to hear from Liz and Nicole who both work within conversation at the library. They spoke to our students about the tools they use to conserve books, tapestries along with a range of textiles and written works.
There was also a Q&A where students asked about the flexibility of their work, the projects they've enjoyed, and how their career path led them to where they are today!

Our students were joined by Fiona, an Enterprise Advisor, to talk about careers in finance today. She spoke to ESC students about her career journey from IT to travel to her current role. She spoke about the different financial services and careers within these as well as looking at the terminology used within the industry.

We were so pleased to hear from Olivia at UAL who told us all about where students from the university have gone onto, with some taking their passions and turning them into businesses. Olivia spoke about the various Creative Industries you could go into from studying at UAL, including Animation, Publishing and Architecture.
We also heard from Jonathan, who previously studied at our sister College, John Ruskin College, and has also worked at East Surrey College too. Jonathan spoke to our students about the power of perseverance and embracing change to better your career. Jonathan has worked for companies like Microsoft, Samsung and The Telegraph, and is now a Marketing Consultant for Vodafone Group.

We were re-joined by Enterprise Advisor, Fiona McNicol, who shared her experience of setting up her own business. This was a really valuable talk for our entrepreneurial students, as she shared how important a business plan is.
Our Construction students heard from Vinci Construction, who spoke about their latest project, Marketfield Way in Redhill! Cameron, Assistant Engineer, explained the different routes into Construction to our students, from approaching a company at a Trade level and working your way up, to looking at Apprenticeships and Degrees. It was great to hear about how our students can plan their career path and get an idea of the work VINCI does too!
