We were delighted to see six of our students from East Surrey College’s Hair and Beauty department continue to celebrate their successes, as they progressed from the semi-finals to the finals of the Association of Hair and Therapy (AHT) national competition in Blackpool.
The competition saw a range of College students battle it out across the regions in categories including 1920s Make-Up, Body Art, Masquerade Face Painting and Prosthetics.
Out of the Body Art competitors, it was 18-year-old Level 3 Diploma Theatrical Make-Up ESC student, Megan Monks who swooped up 1st place for her “impressive” ‘Around the World’ inspired look, which involved painting and styling her model to fit the theme.
1st place winner Megan commented:
“I absolutely loved the thrill of participating in the national finals. To be able to say that you even got into the nationals is a massive deal, let alone coming first. I found the painting stressful especially being next to competitors that were amazing. I absolutely loved it was such a proud moment for me to win”
As a result of being the overall winner in her category, Megan received a gift voucher, a trophy and certificate as national champion.
It was great to also see our other students placed in the top 5 overall within their categories.
4th place – Isabella Oakley - Category: 1920s Make-Up
3rd place – Sabrina Batchelor - Category: 1920s Make-Up
1st place – Megan Monks - Category: Body Art
4th place – Kirsten Massingham - Category: Masquerade
3rd place – Gracie Newman - Category: Masquerade
2nd place - Kallisti Poole (direct entry) – Category: Prosthetics
Great work to all the ladies who got involved and for making it to the finals, showing off their talents and for being placed so highly in their categories on a national scale!
