HNC Electrical & Electronic Engineering Apprentice - Elliott Moreton
After leaving school, Elliott started looking for Engineering jobs, but the lack thereof led him to explore other avenues, particularly Apprenticeships. He found an opportunity at Gatwick Airport Limited, which “fitted [him] perfectly,” and applied for the 2013 intake. He then completed the BTEC and was offered the chance to complete an HNC at East Surrey College - “I jumped at the chance!” Since the beginning of his Apprenticeship at Gatwick Airport, Elliott has really valued the fact that “the lecturers have come from previous industry and engineering experience so you receive industry knowledge, skills and experience from the people who know it best.” As a STEM ambassador, Elliott was regularly involved in STEM fairs, such as Big Bang Events “this has greatly increased my confidence in all aspects, by showing the younger generation what Engineering is all about.”
In recognition of his passion for the industry, Elliott was awarded with ‘Outstanding STEM Apprentice’ at the SATRO Awards in September 2018, after being nominated by Gatwick Airport Limited and East Surrey College.
To anyone thinking of doing an Apprenticeship, Elliott commented: “If you put your mind to anything, you can achieve it, and there is no limit on how far you can achieve.”
