The purpose of the Level 3 Technical Qualification is to ensure students have the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level technical training or study in the Education and Childcare sector. This T Level programme will prepare you for working with young children and their families. You will spend 750 hours over two years on a placement, giving you great insight into the industry and a head-start in your career. We will develop your skills for a variety of workplaces, such as schools and private homes.
The Technical Qualification (TQ) forms part of the new T Level study programme.

The Technical Qualification is split into 2 component parts:
Core component: the knowledge and underpinning concepts, theories and principles as well as core skills for the education and childcare sector.

The Core Component also includes 4 Core Skills.
Core skills 1- Communicate information clearly to engage children and young people
Core skills 2 - Work with others to plan and provide activities to meet children’s and young people’s needs
Core skills 3 - Use formative and summative assessment to track children’s and students’progress to plan and shape educational opportunities
Core skills 4 - How to assess and manager risks to your own and other’s safety when planning activities
Occupational specialisms:
Early Years Educator. Students will only complete one occupational specialism. The occupational specialisms provide students with knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in the specific occupational area.
PO1: Support and promote children’s play, development and early education
PO2: Develop relationships with children to facilitate their development
PO3: Plan, provide and review care, play and educational opportunities to enable children to progress
PO4: Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children
PO5: Work in partnership with colleagues, parents, carers and other professionals to support children’s development
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- Textbooks
- Stationery - ring binder, dividers, pens, paper, plastic wallets etc.
- Access to IT equipment
- Students are required to purchase uniform which consists of polo shirts and a fleece. You will also be expected to wear appropriate trouser. Skirt and shoes. Childcare students need to be aware that excessive jewellery and nail extensions are not appropriate to the industry.
5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English and Maths; or Level 2 Diploma/Extended Certificate (NCFE CACHE) Pass and GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English and Maths.
A clean DBS is required.
Students who achieve this qualification could progress to the following, depending on their chosen occupational specialism: Professional Early Years Educator, Education Technician, Primary/Secondary/Tertiary Teaching/Support Assistant, Learning Mentor, Student Engagement Officer, Nanny, Child-minder, or Playworker, or progress to higher education studying subject areas such as early years teaching, or a degree of your choice. You can also consider joining our Foundation Degree in Early Years.
There is a continued assessment throughout the programme, allowing students to improve and develop continually. Assessment comes in a range of forms including reports, practical assessment and observation, computer based examination, online assessments and presentations.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
Students aged 19+ (without an EHCP) may have to pay tuition fees. Please contact Client Services for more information.
