During this course you will initially learn foundation skills and knowledge in a workshop environment including electrical, mechanical, using lathes for turning operations, preparing and using milling machines and conducting business improvement techniques.
Also you will study a level 2 technical knowledge certificate including units:- engineering environment awareness, fitting and assembly techniques & further engineering disciplines dependant specialist job role.

Engineering Operatives are predominantly involved in engineering operations which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector allowing employers to grow their business while developing a work force with the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the sustain the sector. The role covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sectors during the course of their careers. Dependent on the sector that they are employed in there may be subtle differences in terms of composition and application of the job role specific skills and knowledge they will require, however the core skills and knowledge will be the same regardless of the sector/area they work in.
PLEASE NOTE:
Apprentices may require equipment and resources to undertake training such as: safety/work boots, a reliable laptop or tablet for assignments and course materials, trade-specific tools as outlined in the course, writing equipment like notebooks and pens, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Please be aware that you must be employed in a relevant role before applying for an apprenticeship and it is crucial to have the right mindset for balancing full-time work and study.
While there are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship, having relevant experience or qualifications would be beneficial.
You will need Maths and English GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C or a Functional Skill Level 2) upon enrolment.
Candidates with Maths and English GCSEs at grades 3-1 (D-G or a Functional Skill Level 1) can still enrol onto the apprenticeship but may need to work towards achieving a Functional Skill Level 2 before completing the apprenticeship.
Apprentices who successfully complete this qualification can progress to work within the field.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you could look to progress onto one of the following standards: level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician, level 3 Engineering Technician, level 4 Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship standard, level 4 Electrical Power Networks Engineer.
END POINT ASSESSMENT:
All Apprenticeship standards have an End Point Assessment. This is carried out by an independent organisation who will assess whether you have achieved all the elements of your Apprenticeship. They will assess the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours gained throughout your Apprenticeship. You will only be able to undertake the EPA once you have satisfied all the requirements of the element called ‘The Gateway’. The detail can also be found on the Institute for Apprentices website.
END POINT ASSESSMENT ELEMENTS:
The End Point Assessment may include the following elements.
· A practical assessment.
· An interview
· A project
· Written and/or multiple-choice tests
· A presentation
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Some Apprenticeship standards require apprentices to pass a mandated qualification, in addition to the End-Point Assessment (EPA), to complete their apprenticeship. These qualifications will have their own assessment methods as determined by the awarding body.
