Patton has always loved animals and working collaboratively with others. Since studying Animal Management, they have grown more confident in handling animals and feel more responsible in their studies. They recieve a lot of support from not only their Tutor but their fellow classmates, making ESC a great place for them to study and learn.
Why did you decide to study this course?
I’ve always really loved animals; I have cats and a dog at home and like the idea of working in a cattery or with insects one day. This course felt like a natural step towards achieving that goal.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
What I enjoy most about the course is the sense of community. You’re surrounded by like-minded people who share the same compassion for wildlife. The teachers are also very understanding, especially when it comes to any nerves around handling the. They’re reassuring and very knowledgeable which makes you feel you’re in safe hands.
What do you like most about being a student at East Surrey College?
I really like the flexibility and independence that college offers. The teachers give us the freedom to take control of our own work, which has helped me become more responsible and confident in my studies.
How have you found the teaching and support given at ESC?
The teaching and support has been great. In particular my tutor Frankie has been really supportive, especially with telephone skills practice, taking the time to practice and put me at ease before speaking over the phone. This really put me at ease and has supported me outside the classroom as well as preparing for the workplace.
What are your plans for when you leave college?
I have a real interest in insects at the moment, so I hope to find a career that will help me develop my knowledge in that area. I’d be interested in going into conservation works too; I’d like to know that the work I’m doing is having a positive impact to the world and the environment.
Would you recommend ESC to future students?
Yes, I would. The college has a really positive environment, and both the teachers and students are friendly and supportive. I would recommend the College if people were thinking about studying here, especially if they were considering Animal Management.
