What led you to choosing this course?
I studied GCSE Art and thoroughly enjoyed it, so knew I wanted to continue my studies within this field. My favourite medium is fine art or painting and I get the freedom to do both.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
I attended a taster day though my secondary school and took part in the Art & Design session, this gave me an insight into what it would be like to study at College. I really liked my time, and it has a good reputation – so I decided to apply.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
I really enjoy creating 3D art. Whatever the theme, or brief I try and weave that into my final piece as it’s kind of my signature thing. I also really enjoyed completing my final piece for my first year in Level 3 where the project focused on Metamorphosis.
How are you finding the teaching/support?
Throughout the years my tutors have been really supportive of me and my work. For all of my projects, they have provided me with constructive feedback to help me improve my work and make me feel confident as an artist.
Have you done any work experience during this course?
I wouldn’t call it your typical work experience, but we did get to work on a live brief for Welcare in East Surrey. We had to design a mural that represented the brand and it’s values, and the experience helped me learn what I liked and didn’t like.
Have you taken part in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit?
Yes, I have. We have had trips to quite a few museums including Tate Modern. We also had a visitation from UCA where they spoke about their university courses and the career paths it could lead to.
What are your future plans?
Once I complete my course, I’d like to look at an apprenticeship within a tattoo shop. My end goal would to become a fully qualified tattoo artist and maybe even have my own studio. I just want to turn people’s ideas into a reality using my creative skills.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student. If so, why?
The Art, Design & Communication course is really good – the facilities available are excellent and you do have the creative freedom to create artwork that is relative to you. There is much more support than at GCSE and it’s definitely helped with my confidence.
