What led you to choose this course?
Since secondary school, I’ve always been practising beauty treatments on people, whether it be friends or family. I also work in a Hairdressing salon part-time, so I know that the hair & beauty sector interests me.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
When leaving school, I was looking for a fresh start and wanted somewhere that would give me opportunities. I checked out the Beauty courses online and applied.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
Facials! Of course, other beauty treatments are fun to learn but facials have to be my favourite. Since learning the proper techniques at College, I’ve now been able to practice these skills on my family and they’ve said I’ve improved.
How are you finding the teaching/support?
The teaching is excellent, Donna, our tutor, helps us all understand the treatments, the products and how to act in a client-facing role. For example, when learning about facials, Donna would practice on a mannequin or a student and would do it step-by-step.
Have you done any work experience during this course?
I work part-time in a Hairdressing Salon as an apprentice, where I get to help with clients by washing hair and cleaning equipment.
Have you taken part in events/trips/competitions/exhibitions/ or any speaker’s visit?
We went to this huge event at the Excel in London, where we got to meet industry professionals and pick up loads of free samples. It was so busy, but it shows how popular the industry is.
What are your future plans?
I can see myself owning a hair & beauty salon – my main goal is to complete my Level 2 course and then see whether I want to specialise in Beauty Therapy Level 3 or Hairdressing Level 3.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?
Definitely, although the College can seem really big, it does have a close-knit community feel. Everyone is really nice and it’s so easy to make friends. There are also opportunities for you to join a club or society!
