What led you to choosing this course? If you chose to do a T Level course, why?
I’ve always been interested in computers since a young age and after working on programmes in my free time, realised I want a career in this industry, preferably in computer software. Growing up, my dad owned a computer store, so I have always been surrounded by technology.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
I found ESC through my brother who had already enrolled. Studying here appealed to me because I wanted a chance to retake my English GCSE as well as focus on one subject more closely.
I also liked how the timetable is more flexible than at a Sixth Form, as it means you can have the extra time to go over the work and have better focus without burning out.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
I really enjoy the programming side of my course as I’m interested in becoming a Data Scientist. So far, I’ve recieved a lot of useful experience, with many units giving a lot of information on what this career path might be like.
Overall, how did you find the teaching/support?
The tutors are very helpful and if you ever have any doubts, they are always there to listen after class and give extra help. All the resources are online for you to access at any time, which I found really helpful during the weekend or holidays.
Did you complete any work experience during this course? How did you find it and what takeaways did you have from it?
I did some work experience at ESC, working in the sever room to help organise all the hardware. It was interesting working with different components of the computer such as the wires; I felt like I learned a lot from the experience.
Did you take part in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit? If so, what and tell us more!
As well as being Captain of the East Surrey Football team, I am also the course rep for Computing, where we help give feedback from the students to the tutors about the course.
What are your future plans once you’ve finished your course?
I plan to become a Data Scientist and hope to go to university. I’ve applied to 5 universities and my top choice is UCLA, to study Data Science.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend ESC for anyone who is interested in working on a single subject in more depth. You’ll be able to focus and find yourself ready to learn every time you enter College!
