What led you to choosing this course?
At GCSE Level I had the option to study Construction Level 1, which allowed me to try out Carpentry, Brickwork and Painting & Decorating. Following this, I applied for the Electrical Installation Level 2 course as I had an interest in electrical circuits and wanted to learn more installation practices.
To now, where I am finalising my second year in the Electro/Mechanical Engineering Level 3 course which is now turning into a T Level.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
When looking at other Colleges within the area they were not offering what I was looking for, I wanted somewhere that would be the right fit. I attended an Open Evening where I got to speak with the Electrical Installation tutors and I felt really welcomed, that’s when I put my application in.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
There are two elements within the course that I really enjoy. The first is practical’s – throughout my second year, I’m working on designing an entire project relating to engineering and looking at planning, designing and finalising a prototype.
The second is theory related, I’ve always liked learning about how and why certain things work and within the course there is a lot of additional reading, which I enjoy.
How are you finding the teaching/support?
The teaching support is really good. Everyone is really nice and you can tell the tutors want to help you reach your goal whatever that may be.
Have you done any work experience during this course?
For a couple of weeks, I worked with my dad at WPS Parking Solutions near Heathrow Airport where I was able to learn about their systems, the computer design and also watch a few video tutorials.
Have you taken part in events/trips/competitions/exhibitions/ or any speakers visit?
We’ve had quite a few guests come in to speak with our class where they’ve shared what their business does and the opportunities, they provide whether it’s a job or an apprenticeship. Our most recent talks were from Sony and Merlin Entertainment Group.
What are your future plans?
I think the best route for when I finish my course would be a Level 4 Apprenticeship – I need to look more into it, but there are a couple of recommendations I’ve had including UK Power Networks, National Rail, BA Systems and Thales.
I just think it’s the best way to get more experience whilst also getting paid.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student. If so, why?
The one word I’d use to describe the College is inclusive. As for the course, some may find it intimidating because there is a lot of reading and theory, but it’s totally worth it in the end!
