What led you to choosing this course?
I have always had an interest in the digital creative industry, I first studied Information & Creative Technology Level 2 and passed the course. I then went to explore my other interest in Applied Science Level 3 but found out it wasn’t for me.
I recently looked at the other courses available at ESC and saw the Games, Animation & 3D Modelling course and it appealed to me. I liked the idea of having the creative freedom to create my own game.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
The College’s location is a benefit as it’s close to home, but I also attended a taster session with my previous school, where I was able to learn more about the College’s environment and the courses they have available.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
We recently completed a simple animation using Blender, a computer software. Mine was a car model with the wheels turning. The second project we’re working on currently in creating a short game – I’m in the process of creating a mind map for the prototype.
How are you finding the teaching/support?
I feel very understood – sometimes I struggle with coding as it can look like an alien language, but my tutor Daniel takes the time to explain why things work a certain way and answers any questions I might have.
Have you taken part in events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit?
As a class we attended a Games Convention at the Excel Centre in London. It was called EGX and was a joint event with Comic Con. It was great to learn more about the industry and the future of gaming – we listened to a few talks and played some games.
What are your future plans?
I find this a hard question because it seems like such a long way away – but in relation to my course I could see myself having a career in animation and modelling as it’s something I’m currently enjoying most.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student. If so, why?
If you’re looking to do Games Design, I would definitely recommend this course – you can be creatively expressive and use your imagination to push your creativity.
