Irfan chose a T Level course to make the most of classroom theory and practical work experience. As part of the course, Irfan has been working with NHS Surrey Heartlands to develop his software skills. He enjoys the subject because it offers a chance to learn key skills that employers are looking for, and he knows he can always ask for help and support if necessary.
What inspired you to choose this course?
I chose the Digital Production, Design and Development T Level because I already had an interest in coding and wanted a course that mixes practical work with industry experience. Studying a T Level has given me a clear path into tech roles and helps me build the type of skills employers look for.
What made ESC stand out to you?
East Surrey College stood out to me because of the friendly environment I saw during the Open Day. When I saw the college also offered T Levels, I realised this matched what I wanted to study, so it felt like the right fit for me to come here.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
I enjoy the practical side of the course the most. I like working on real projects and building things instead of only learning from theory. I also enjoy developing my coding skills and seeing myself improve over time.
Overall, how do you find the teaching/support?
I find the teaching and support to be very helpful. Things are explained clearly but if for whatever reason I’m still struggling with something I can always ask for help.
Have you done any work experience during this course?
Yes, as part of the T Level course I’m doing a placement with the NHS Surrey Heartlands. We’re working on research, data collection, and presentations and it takes up six hours of our timetable a week.
Working with a business has improved my teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, and it has helped me see how my course links to real world projects and my career interests.
Have you taken part in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit?
I took part in events like the Bett Showcase 2025 and the UR Game Changers event at the University of Roehampton. The Roehampton event let me pitch ideas, work with employers, and build skills like teamwork and communication
What are your future plans once you’ve finished your course?
After I have finished my course, my plan is to do an apprenticeship related to my course, but I’m also considering university as an option potentially.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend ESC. The teaching is clear and helpful, the college has a friendly and supportive environment, and I felt safe and encouraged throughout my course. It’s a place where you can learn practical skills and get real experience.
