Having always had a passion for fast cars, Mytch chose to study motorsport to help build experience for a career in F1.
Why did you decide to study this course?
From a young age I’ve always had a passion for motorsport and love anything with an engine. I dream of working in the F1 or having my own sports car team, so this course was an ideal place to begin learning and building experience.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
At ESC we get to attend track days which are great for working in real race scenarios and getting a sense of what it’s like working outside of the workshop. The course has allowed me to attend race events at Brands hatch and Silverstone where i helped maintain the cars and push the drivers to win. At Silverstone last year we won an impressive 3 trophies, which was an incredible feeling.
What do you like most about being a student at East Surrey College?
The tutors at ESC are really good. They give us freedom with our learning but also structure which helps us progress further. There are also loads of opportunities to take what we’ve learnt in the workshop into the real world. The course also encourages you to work closely with the other students, so it’s very social, and we all push each other for the best outcome.
How have you found the teaching and support given at ESC?
I’ve had loads of support at ESC with both my course and personal life. Laurence has been amazing and is the backbone of the course. He knows how to have a laugh but is also such a good teacher for motor sports.
What are your plans for when you leave college?
In the future I’d love to either create my own motor sport team or work for a team in the F1. The college is great for helping build a portfolio of work so I can get closer to the career I want.
Would you recommend ESC to future students?
I would definitely recommend ESC because of the freedom we have to learn. They put in the effort and funding to make the course better, helping you progress so much further. The workshop for motorsports is great. It has a good number of tools and equipment to help you learn all the different engines.
