The qualification enables students to explore a variety of business disciplines, enabling progression to either higher education and/or employment in the business sector. This is a practical, work-related course, which develops the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to provide a comprehensive and globally recognised education. You will be required to use real businesses for your coursework.

This is a practical, work-related course, which develops the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to provide a comprehensive and globally recognised education. You will be required to use real businesses for your coursework.
Students benefit from the opportunity to meet business leaders in conjunction with some trips organised during the year to relate your learning to the world outside of college. You will often work in small groups, and you may well be required to present your findings to the rest of the group. Excellent attendance is necessary to complete the course.
All 16–18-year-olds are required to complete a minimum of 1 week’s work placement (35 hours) * at a time agreed by your department head. *Exact number of hours required will depend on the level course you are enrolled on.
UNITS/TOPICS COVERED:
The course comprises 13 Units (6 Units in Year 1 and 7 Units in Year 2) and the range is very wide, including both core Units and those designed to facilitate more specialist study.
The Units of study cover a range of topics such as:
- Finance (External Exam)
- Marketing, including Digital (External Exam)
- Event Management
- International Business
- Business Management
- Market Research

5 GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English and Maths or BTEC Level 2 Diploma/BTEC Level 2 Certificate/Extended Merit/Distinction, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification, at Merit or Distinction level including GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English and Maths. Students over 19 without these qualifications, but with relevant work experience, will be considered for the course.
This is a well-regarded qualification for entry to Higher Education and advanced professional studies. Employment opportunities range from careers in Sales and Finance to Human Resources and Marketing.
Most of the course is continuously assessed through assignments, involving practical project tasks and case studies. In 2 subjects, Finance and Marketing assessment is via external exams sat in January.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
