The Level 3 Certificate in Counselling aims to improve performance of those who use counselling skills. You will be provided with opportunities to develop a range of counselling skills and skills in self-awareness. You will develop a repertoire of counselling skills at a consistent level which will be underpinned with an understanding of one major therapeutic model, whilst increasing awareness of self and the impact on others. You will be encouraged to take active responsibility for your own learning to establish principles and good practice from a shared analysis with fellow learners and staff exploring own personal experiences – course related and elsewhere. The course has a strong focus on experiential learning. All learners are required to engage with offering authentic appreciation of own experiences which will be demanding of the self in interacting with others.

The course seeks to recreate real-world scenarios to allow you to further develop skills acquired at level 2. You will be required to allow additional study time on top of the guided learning hours of 145 hours (GLH) outlined below. GLH is part of the total qualification time of 180 hours (TQT). TQT includes Guided Learning Hours (GLH) which involves your commitment to engage in preparation, studying or any other form of participation in education or training that is not under the direct supervision of a lecturer, supervisor or tutor (regarded as independent study time). You will need to evidence commitment to developing a disciplined approach to study at this level to further develop skills acquired at level 2. Overall attendance is 90% pass rate. All assignments must achieve a pass in order to gain a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills (referred assignments can only be resubmitted once).

- Unit 2 – Understanding Counselling Theory (Written Assignment) - 34 GLH
- Unit 3 – Using Counselling Skills (Recording and Written Assignment) - 66 GLH
- Unit 4 – Personal Development for Users of Counselling Skills (Written Assignment) - 34 GLH
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- Pens, highlighters
- Notepad
- Green Folder with 10-part divider
- Counselling Level 2
- 4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language
- Learners on this qualification should have access to adequate IT facilities.
- Interviewer must be satisfied with the applicant’s suitability to undertake this Level 3 qualification.
Successful completion of this course may permit progression onto the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. The level 3 qualification does not result in qualification as a qualified trained counsellor and learners cannot use the title ‘counsellor’ upon completion. A further course of study is required to embark upon achieving this qualification.
Internal assessment, internal and external moderation. Specific requirements and restrictions may apply to individual units within qualifications. All assessed grades are not final and will be subject to both internal and external moderation
The fees displayed are the MAXIMUM payable by adults aged 19+ unless you qualify for a concessionary fee. Please be aware that there may be additional costs for materials.

Tuition fees may be waived or reduced if you are on a low income or receive certain benefits.
If you don’t qualify for a concession, you will need to pay for your course in full or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost (Level 3-6 courses only).
