The NCFE Level 1 Award in Floristry is ideal for students wanting to pursue a career within the floristry sector or for those wishing to expand and update their knowledge and improve their floral designs. We will focus on the skills and techniques required to produce commercial floral designs, bouquets and arrangements for various occasions. Candidates will build a digital portfolio of evidence and will be assessed via practical assessments and assignments. Research, homework and planning of approximately 2 hours per week is required to compile portfolio tasks. 
UNITS/TOPICS COVERED: 
Health and Safety and working in the floral industry will be embedded throughout the course. 
Students will develop basic skills in flower arranging craft and the underpinning knowledge of the craft process and basis for progression into further study in floristry. Students will learn how to use materials, tools, and equipment successfully and safely whilst gradually developing a portfolio of their practical floristry designs.
Students are required to successfully complete the 3 mandatory units below.
- D/506/2654 Explore craft resources (3 credits)
- H/506/2655 Explore craft ideas (4 credits)
- D/506/2671 Create, present and review final floral design (2 credits)
Student's portfolios will evidence achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with
each unit. 
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: 
Candidates will need up to ÂŁ15 a week for purchasing flowers, foliage, and decorative containers. Some equipment, e.g., scissors, knife and basic stationery will be needed, this will be discussed at your induction. We have textbooks in class, in the library and available through our online portal, however you may wish to purchase your own, this will be discussed at induction. A good range of sundries are supplied by the college for you to use throughout your course.
This beginners course is for learners who are keen to embark on a career in Floristry or keen hobbyists wishing to develop new skills. A reasonable standard of literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential to help complete the theory elements of this course, i.e. the ability to read and interpret written tasks, to write answers and complete documents in a legible and understandable form, to carry out research tasks, organize information and to make simple calculations using a calculator. All candidates will need to take a standard online numeracy/literacy assessment to ascertain suitability and any support needs for this course and attend a short induction.
This course could lead to a career as a qualified self-employed/freelance florist or employment as a florist within the retail sector. You may wish to further your knowledge by taking additional floristry qualifications or other specialist floristry courses or workshops.
The fees displayed are the MAXIMUM payable by adults aged 19+ unless you qualify for a concessionary fee. Please be aware that there may be additional costs for materials.

Tuition fees may be waived or reduced if you are on a low income or receive certain benefits.
If you don’t qualify for a concession, you will need to pay for your course in full or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost (Level 3-6 courses only).
