What led you to choosing this course?
I’ve always enjoyed working with computers and at GCSE Level I studied Creative Media which is when I focused more on Adobe Software’s like InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro to create graphics and videos.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
After completing my GCSEs I knew I didn’t want to go and study three A Levels but would prefer one BTEC. I first chose to study Information & Creative Technology Level 2 which I passed and thoroughly enjoyed before progressing on to the Computing Level 3 course.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
During the course, I’ve enjoyed various units including Project Management, Python, Computer Networking and Cyber Security.
My favourite unit is networking as I love the hardware aspect of IT. I’ve learnt a lot different practices in networking.
How are you finding the teaching/support?
Good, teachers are good if you have any problems. You can contact tutors outside of College via Teams and they’ll get back to you during College hours.
Have you done any work experience during this course?
From Dec ’23 to end of Jan ’24, I worked with the IT Department at East Surrey College. I helped technicians with checking computers and systems throughout the College to ensure software’s were up-to-date and security checks were completed.
Have you taken part in events / trips / competitions / exhibitions / or any speakers visit?
We attended the Bett convention at the ExCeL London where we spoke with businesses, listened to talks and took part in challenges. We’ve also had a couple of speakers come into our class, the most recent one was from Sony where we learned about the tech giant and how to get involved.
What are your future plans?
I’m looking at either completing a Degree Apprenticeship in Digital Tech and Solutions, or studying a Computing and Business Management Degree at my top choice, Loughborough University.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student. If so, why?
Definitely, the teaching is really good and if you prefer something more practical, studying a BTEC is the route to choose!
