Jarin chose Education and Training Level 5 because she wants to make meaningful impacts on her students and help them reach their full potential. Whilst studying, she was a Tutor at ESC, gaining first-hand experience to help put her work into practice.
What led you to choosing this course? If you chose to do a T Level course, why?
I chose the DET teaching course because I am passionate about education and want to make a meaningful impact by helping students reach their full potential.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
What drew me to East Surrey College was its convenient location and diverse course options. I also had the opportunity to attend a taster day, which allowed me to experience the supportive learning environment.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
A highlight of the course for me has been gaining practical classroom experience while I study. I’ve really valued the opportunity to put theory into practice by designing innovative activities that make a real impact on students’ learning. It’s been especially rewarding to see how these activities can both engage students and build their confidence, while supporting their long-term progress.
Overall, how did you find the teaching/support?
One of the most positive aspects of the course was the quality of teaching and support. Tutors are approachable, knowledgeable, and always willing to offer guidance, which makes a big difference in building my confidence and skills.
Did you complete any work experience during this course? How did you find it and what takeaways did you have from it?
I worked as a sessional ESOL lecturer during the course, which gave me valuable insight into teaching both adults and 16–17-year-olds. It also allowed me to bring theory into practice, helped me develop key skills in lesson planning, differentiation, and classroom management, and confirmed my passion for a career in education.
Did you take part in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit? If so, what and tell us more!
We had a visit from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), which provided valuable insights into professional standards in teaching and highlighted the importance of continuous development and reflective practice.
What are your future plans once you’ve finished your course?
I have already completed the course and achieved QTLS status, recently completed my Level 6 Education Studies degree, and have since taken on the role of Maths Lead. My future plans are to continue advancing my teaching career, gain further experience, and explore opportunities in educational leadership and curriculum development.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend ESC to future students because of the high quality of teaching, the supportive and welcoming atmosphere, and the excellent guidance provided throughout the course, all of which create a positive and safe environment for learning and personal growth.
