Eddie has a passion for gardening and working outdoors. He’s gaining confidence and skills everyday to help make this dream happen, and enjoys the activites Skills For Independence has given him, such as cooking and interacting with others.
What led you to choosing this course?
I chose this course so I could become more independent and gain more confidence and meet new people. The course has helped me a lot and I’ve made a lot of new friends.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
I had a tour of the building with my school, and I liked the look of the Foundation Learning rooms. The kitchen is really nice and as part of the course we get to use it often, recently we have made tacos.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
I like doing my Math’s and English lessons as well as cooking. Our course lets us work as part of a team a lot, like today we have been doing a project which is making miniature wreaths for Christmas.
Overall, how did you find the teaching/support?
The teachers help a lot at college and they give us lots of support. We can ask them anything and if I don’t understand anything I feel comfortable asking for help.
Did you complete any work experience during this course?
Not yet, but I’m building my skills to be more prepared for the future. My goal is to get work experience in a garden centre, as when we used the garden at college I really enjoyed it and want to work outside.
What are your future plans once you’ve finished your course?
I’d like to work in a garden centre because I like watering flowers and being outdoors.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?
I would recommend ESC! I feel safe at all times and I enjoy all of the activities we do in class. The course is definitely helping me gain confidence and independence.
