After attending a taster day and enjoying the session, William decided to enroll in Uniformed Protective Services Level 3. From team-building exercises to expeditions, he enjoys how physically and practically oriented the course is. His end goal is to one day work in the police force.
Why did you decide to study this course?
I went to a taster day last year and did the session for public services, which was really fun. It included a lot of team building exercises and showed what the course would be like. I decided on Public Services because one day I want to work in police force or maybe even as a fire fighter.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
My favourite thing about the course is the physical and fitness side of things. Every Thursday we get to complete expeditions and other physical activities like learning how to set up tents and use certain equipment. These skills are a good way to get into the career I want.
What do you like most about being a student at East Surrey College?
There’s a lot of leeway in time and flexibility in your timetable; you get more freedom than at school. It’s also great that as part of our course we get work experience whilst we are studying.
How have you found the teaching and support given at ESC?
The teaching and support are very helpful, especially with my Tutor Graham. I feel like you can speak to him about anything and you’ll get a lot of support, especially when going out of college to take part in expeditions and trips.
What are your plans for when you leave college?
I’m still deciding but I’d love to get an Apprenticeship with the police. Other than an Apprenticeship I’d still love to become a police officer because I just want to help people and feel like that’s the best way to do it.
Would you recommend ESC to future students?
Definitely. It’s a great place for those who want to focus their studies on one thing and don’t want to spend a lot of time stuck only in the classroom. The teaching support and mental health services are also really good.
