This qualification meets the needs of candidates who work or want to work in a ground operations role in the aviation sector. You will have the chance to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the aviation sector. It provides valuable accreditation of skills and knowledge for candidates, without requiring or proving occupational competence.
This course has been designed especially for those who wish to pursue a career in the aviation industry. The course will provide you with a broad knowledge and understanding of the sector and equip you with the right skills to pursue a variety of different career opportunities in this interesting and challenging field. Students on this course will benefit from the opportunity of attending site visits to various aviation organisations and events to develop technical skills and see first-hand the exciting opportunities the industry has to offer. The course focuses on principles of flight, airmanship and communications. Given our close proximity to Gatwick, the second largest airport in the UK, these subjects are of direct relevance to future employment in the area, either as a member of airport or airline staff, or the many supporting industries located close by. In addition you will gain the opportunity to acquire essential skills that will be recognised by employers, or you can build on this with further learning for two additional years on the Extended Diploma in Aviation Operations or Aeronautical Engineering.

All 16–18-year-olds are required to complete a minimum of 1 week’s work placement (35 hours)* at a time agreed by your department head. *Exact number of hours required will depend on the level course you are enrolled on.

5 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 (A*-D) including English and Maths.
WHERE CAN IT LEAD?
- An Aviation Operations or Aeronautical Engineering BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
- An Apprenticeship
Assessments will be regular throughout the year with a variety of methods including; project work, presentations, observation of practical activity and written assignments.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
