Teach Too Successful Funding Bid

Date: 24 September 2018

Driving Talent within the Care Sector

East Surrey College, Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Health Education England working across Kent, Surrey & Sussex; were delighted to be part of a successful joint partnership Bid for Teach Too funding.

In its fifth competitive year, Teach Too is a Government sponsored Education and Training Foundation Development Programme, aimed at supporting a genuine collaboration between Further Education sector providers and local industry employers to drive quality across all areas. The programme has run for the last five years, and is well respected with the bidding process being highly competitive, with this successful Bid being one of only 6 awarded nationally.

East Surrey College works with a number of employers within the health sector through its Care Academy of which both Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Health Education England are key members. The Care Academy has a combined vision working together to prepare local people for careers in the Care sector, and to promote the vibrant opportunities that are available to local residents and local employers.

The successful Bid will fund and deliver a 6-month project addressing the staff recruitment challenges in the sector, raising awareness of the career opportunities supporting the route in to employment in the industry, developing skills and improving progression within the sector.

Partners will create innovative, high quality teaching and learning resources, alongside training career advice. This will involve co-teaching with professional practitioners coming together in the classroom, production of resources highlighting skills needed to gain access to the sector, and the use of positive industry case studies disseminated through printed materials and video voxpops.

The successful Bid builds on the established work of the Care Academy which centres around strong partnership working, bringing together expertise in educational development and careers networks for jobs in the sector.

East Surrey College and health care partners continue to update and realign the curriculum offered to the wider community, thereby ensuring that it directly maps to the skills required by local employers, and facilitates successful career progression for employees. This offers a smooth transition for those wishing to join the local sector employers, or for those that are tailoring their training to the specialism that they wish to practice.

The project work will dovetail with the strategic overview of Health Education England, and also the NHS providers involved.
