About T Levels

T Levels are Level 3 qualifications for students aged 16-19 who’ve finished GCSEs. T Levels are equivalent to 3 A levels and help young people develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills needed to thrive in the workplace. T Levels combine classroom learning with a substantial industry placement.

Industry Placements

Every T Level student must complete an industry placement that lasts a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days). This is to provide young people with the invaluable opportunity to put their learning, knowledge and skills into practice in a real workplace environment. Industry placements also give employers a unique opportunity to develop new talent and help young people become work ready.

Designed by Employers for Employers

The government has worked alongside more than 220 employers to design T Level courses that deliver the skills your organisations need.

Benefits Of Industry Placement

  • Bring in young people with different skills, new ideas and a fresh perspective
  • Address local and national skills gaps by helping young people develop the skills your industry needs
  • Develop your existing staff’s mentoring and management skills
  • Build a more diverse and creative workforce
  • Build partnerships with local training and education providers

Employer Incentive

As part of the T Level Employer Incentive Fund, which has been designed to help cover the financial constraints employers may face, employers will be able to claim £1,000 for every student that they host (up to 20) on 45 day (315 hour) industry placements. This is subject to funding incentives and may be subject to change. Please visit for the latest update on incentives for T Levels

How Industry Placements Work

You’ll get support at each stage of your industry placement journey from our Employer Services Team - from selecting the right student through to managing their contribution to your business, and maybe even hiring a new employee.

Step 1 - Contact Our Employer Services Team

Express your interest by contacting our Employer Services Team, who will be able to identify suitable students for you

Step 2 - Organise a Time Frame For Your Industry Placement

Organise a time frame when you’ll deliver the placement and make sure you’re compliant and have everything in place. We’ll be on hand to guide you through any policies you need to have in place or paperwork you need to complete

Step 3 – Decide On Student Compensation

Decide on whether you’ll want to pay the student – there’s no legal requirement or expectation that students will be paid as it is part of a course. Some employers prefer to pay their students at least the National Minimum Wage while they are working

Step 4 – Agree Objectives

Agree on work objectives with the student and how you’ll manage them during their placement

Step 5 – End of Placement

At the end of the placement, you can talk to us about hiring the student after they finish their course and if you would like to take on another student.
