Free training funded by Surrey County Council

As Trades People and Construction professionals, you can receive high quality training funded by Surrey County Council, on the installation and maintenance of air source heat pumps and low temperature heating system design, alongside extra content on the MCS certification and guidance on making the next step as a new heat pump installer.

We are also offering training with Steve Willis on Installation Commissioning and Servicing for Heat Pumps and Hot Water Systems. These qualifications will enable you to become an approved installer, registered on the MCS website.

This training has been funded to help heating engineers and construction professions make the transition to installing heat pumps and different forms of building and insulation treatements to meet the high demand for green skilled professionals in Surrey.

Our Courses

East Surrey College and Surrey County Council are providing training over a 5-day period. The training consists of four courses:

The qualification is aimed primarily at practicing plumbers and heating engineers who already have an understanding of the fundamental requirements of central heating systems and who wish to design and install energy efficient low temperature hot water heating systems that may use heat pumps as the heat source.

This is a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. The qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.

The OFT21 - 504A course includes -

  • Health and safety
  • Regional legislation and requirements
  • Safe electrical isolation
  • Factors to be considered before and during installation.
  • Filling and flushing requirements
  • Appliance installation
  • Soundness tests
  • Operational checks and procedures
  • Fault finding, identifying unsafe situations.
  • Practical servicing and commissioning

The course is for anyone requiring an understanding of water regulations/water byelaws. In particular those wishing to become approved plumbers/contractors. Successful candidates are encouraged to join an approved plumbers/contractors scheme, such as those managed by SNIPEF, APHC, CIPHE, WIAPS, and the regional water utility companies.

This enables them to issue a certificate of completion to both the householder and water company.

This is a nationally recognised qualification for those working within this specialised area of construction. This qualification is competence-based, candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.
