Welcome from Jayne Dickinson, Principal and Chief Executive

Principal and Chief Executive, Jayne Dickinson

I am delighted that you are considering East Surrey College for your future study or training and are looking to find out more about our courses and the services we offer.

On 1 February 2019, the merger between East Surrey College incorporating the Reigate School of Art, and John Ruskin College took place as planned under the group name of Orbital South Colleges. Our merger presents an exciting opportunity for the future, building on the very many strengths of our Colleges to create a high-quality, sustainable learning community; whilst still very much retaining the identity of each organisation.

From the moment you walk into our spectacular building you can see that this is a College built for success. We have first-class facilities and first-class teaching staff who have excellent subject knowledge and bring substantial industry experience.  They will support you to gain the skills you need - whether to enter or advance in a career that really interests you, help you progress to university, into an Apprenticeship or to develop your skills in something new or for enjoyment.

We have extensive partnership working with employers that has seen the number of young people and adults progressing into excellent apprenticeships rise consistently over the past five years, endorsing the very high quality of our students and their learning.  We invite employers to visit the College, work with us on ensuring our curriculum is appropriate to today’s employment needs, critique student work and to give students a real insight into their employment sectors.  Students take part in work experience and a range of practical work projects.

We have a dedicated Employer Services team who work with employers on their training and staffing needs supporting their business growth.   Our employer satisfaction rates are some of

The vast majority of our students do progress to a successful future.  Most students succeed very well, achieving top grades and national competition success in increasingly high numbers.  Our achievement data places us consistently as a top performing College benchmarked against national rates - a super result for our students.

Our students with high support needs gain valuable work and independent living skills and qualifications.

At East Surrey College you will be treated as an individual and not just a face in a crowd. We recognise that your next step could shape the rest of your life and it’s our job to make sure you have the right skills, qualifications and guidance to get there.

If you plan to join us straight from school, you will join a study programme that includes work experience and work-related projects as well as GCSEs in English and/or Maths (if you don’t already have them at 9-4 (A*-C)), to set you firmly on the career path of your choice. We’ll make sure you are thoroughly guided and supported along the way.

Of course college is not just about studying – you will be making new friends and hopefully taking advantage of the other opportunities available whether sports, charity events, our record label or College Council. You may be a budding entrepreneur in which case we have special events with input from large and small businesses to help you excel.

East Surrey College also offers a wide range of qualification and non-qualification part-time courses suitable for adults who are looking to change careers, improve their job prospects or learn something new for enjoyment. The College is open several evenings in the week and there is a thriving Saturday programme that includes an extensive range of leisure courses from which to choose.

If you are looking to gain a Higher Education qualification or degree, studying locally at East Surrey College not only offers excellent quality, confirmed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, but makes real financial sense. We offer a growing number of Higher qualifications, Foundation and Full Degrees accredited by University of Chichester, University of the Arts London (UAL) and professional organisations such as AAT for Accountancy – right here on your doorstep, along with Degree Apprenticeships.

Whatever your interest, do browse through our website for ideas, but don’t forget our Open Events which provide an opportunity for you to take a good look around as well as to meet with tutors and hear from our current students.

I hope to see you here soon!
