Four of our Carpentry Level 1 students were recently awarded prizes for an internal competition to create a gallows bracket with three different carpentry joints (Mortice and Tenon, Bridle and Housing). Students were given the task at the beginning of January and their final products were judged based on the tutor’s specifications.
In Group A, Charlie and Shaun won first and second place.

There was also an additional award for our Carpentry Level 2 student Andre who was awarded a certificate for an outstanding commitment to learning.
David Hartsilver, Carpentry Lecturer, commented: “This award was given to Andre for his eagerness to learn, always being on time and focused during his lessons and also achieving 100% attendance and punctuality during the bus and train strikes.”
During his studies, Andre has also secured two different work experience placements one with ‘Pilgrim Harps’ (Harp Manufacturer) and a second with the National Theatre, South Bank, London.
