This course is an ideal introduction to the construction industry and is suitable for 16-19 year olds wanting an introduction to the variety of construction trades, to gain skills in those areas and perhaps to decide which trade is the right one to pursue a career in. UNITS/TOPICS COVERED:
- Health & Safety within the construction industry
- Communication with others
- Bricklaying
- Carpentry and joinery
- Painting and Decorating
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
All students will be required to wear college uniform.Steel toe capped boots must be worn at all times when in the workshops.
4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and Maths (considerations made on a case-by-case basis).
The primary aim of this qualification is to help prepare you to progress into further learning and training in the construction sector. You may take the qualification as part of a pre apprenticeship programme, a traineeship, or you may take it alongside the CSCS Green Card for Labourers qualifications, to help you gain opportunities to work on site as a
labourer.
Once you have studied the qualification, you should be in a position to decide which construction trade area you would like to specialise in. You could then consider progressing on to study any of the following qualifications:
- Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying
- Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery
- Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating
There is a continued assessment throughout the programme, allowing students to improve and develop continually. Assessment comes in a range of forms including leaflets, handbooks, essays and reports, practical assessment and observation, class tests, presentations, discussion seminars and practical projects.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
Students aged 19+ (without an EHCP) may have to pay tuition fees. Please contact Client Services for more information.
