This course offers an introduction into the Health and Social Child Care environment and covers working with a wide range of client groups.This course will help you reach your full potential by encouraging and developing the personal skills and qualities needed to work in the health and social care sector.

UNITS/TOPICS COVERED:
To gain this qualification, students must achieve a minimum of 37 credits (20 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 17 credits from the optional units). Students will complete units including:
- Understanding the Range of Service Provision and Roles within Health and Social Care (Adults, Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Understanding the Principles and Values in Health and Social Care (Adults, Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Awareness of Protection and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care (Adults, Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introduction to Communication in Health and Social Care (Adults, Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Introductory Awareness of Health and Safety in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Introductory Awareness of Person-centred Support in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Understanding the Importance of Engagement in Leisure and Social Activities in Health and Social Care
- Introduction to a Healthy Lifestyle, Physical Disability and Mental Health
- Understanding Risk within Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Job Opportunities in Health and Social Care
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- Textbooks
- Stationery –ring binder, dividers, pens, notebook, plastic wallets etc.
- Access to IT an advantage
- Students are required to purchase uniform, which consists of polo shirts and a fleece (optional). You will also be expected to wear appropriate trousers/skirt and shoes.
4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and Maths (considerations made on a case-by-case basis).
A clean DBS check is required.
The Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings allows for progression to the Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care, Level 2 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce* and the Level 2 Diploma in Care*. The knowledge gained will provide valuable learning should a student choose to progress onto an Apprenticeship in a related area.
*Students should be at least 16 years of age for entry onto these qualifications.
You may also gain employment with the health and social care sector in roles such as a home care worker, support worker, care assistant or a learning support assistant.
There is a continued assessment throughout the programme, allowing students to improve and develop continually. Assessment comes in a range of forms including leaflets, handbooks, essays and reports, practical assessment and observation, class tests, presentations, discussion seminars and practical projects.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
Students aged 19+ (without an EHCP) may have to pay tuition fees. Please contact Client Services for more information.
