This qualification involves a combination of practical and associated theory. You will learn the basics of all the major motor vehicle systems such as brakes, engines, suspension, transmission, and electrics through a series of practical learning tasks. This qualification also prepares you for progression onto Motorsport Level 3 Extended Diploma.

UNITS/TOPICS COVERED:
- Event regulations
- Engine mechanical, lubrication and cooling system units and components
- Fuel, ignition, air and exhaust system units and components
- Inspection of a vehicle during competition
- Removal and replacement of chassis units and components
- Removal and replacement electrical units and components
- Removal and replacement transmissions, driveline units and components
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
All students will be required to wear College work ware. Steel or composite toe capped boots must be worn at all times when in the workshops. Students will also need to bring in stationery equipment such as pens, pencils, calculator, lever arch folder and recommended textbooks.
5 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and Maths; or a Level 1 qualification plus English and Maths at the appropriate level.
A successful student within this course may have the opportunity to study a Motorsport Level 3 Extended Diploma or employment as an Apprentice within the Motorsport industry.
There is a continued assessment throughout the programme, allowing students to improve and develop continually. Assessment comes in a range of forms including reports, practical assessment and observation, online assessments and presentations.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
Students aged 19+ (without an EHCP) may have to pay tuition fees. Please contact Client Services for more information.
