This RIBA accredited programme is tailored for individuals eager to play a central role in overseeing the construction procurement process. Quantity surveyors are essential in managing the financial dimensions of construction and civil engineering projects, guiding them from initial cost estimates through to final accounts. Their responsibility is to control expenditure while maximising value, ensuring that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the expected standards of quality.
With sustainable construction methods and technology at the core of your learning, this course will help you develop a thorough understanding of the construction management process – finances, cost planning and estimating, law, contract administration, construction technology, through to building engineering and measurement.
This course is one day a week for 4 years.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:
Year 1: six Level 4 modules
Year 2: two Level 4 modules; four Level 5 modules
Year 3: four Level 5 modules; two Level 6 modules
Year 4: five Level 6 modules
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION:
On successful completion of this course you will become a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor) and can support the process of obtaining professional membership with The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
96 UCAS points in relevant subjects, and grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English and Maths. RICS Associate qualified applicants will also be considered. Mature students with substantial relevant work experience will also be considered.
As this programme requires work-based elements of assessment, it is extremely likely that applicants will need to be based in a relevant company.
You’ll be ready to take on a variety of roles in the when you graduate, including: quantity surveyor, property developer, project manager, construction law and claims specialist or BIM coordinator.
This course is assessed through essays, presentations, reports and other written tasks, plans/proposals, written examinations, portfolios, drawings and quantity surveying tasks.
The tuition fee stated is per year and may increase in following years. Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be provided at interview.
Student loans and financial support
Full-time and Part-time students from the UK/EU who are studying for a Higher Education course can apply to the Student Loans Company (www.slc.co.uk) for a Tuition Fee Loan for the full amount (this will be paid directly to the College). Additionally, Full-time UK-only students can apply for a Maintenance Loan (to cover living costs). The Government have also introduced the Maintenance Loans to Part-time students. Evidence of an approved loan must be provided at enrolment in the form of the Payment Advice letter provided by the Student Loans Company.
