The Construction and the Built Environment HNC is designed for students taking their first steps into construction employment or for those already in employment and seeking career development opportunities in Construction, Surveying, Building Services Engineering, Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
The qualifications provide progression into the workplace either directly or via study at university and are designed to meet employer’s needs.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:
- Core Unit Mandatory 1 Individual Project (Pearson-set)
- Core Unit Mandatory 2 Construction Technology
- Core Unit Mandatory 3 Science & Materials
- Core Unit Mandatory 4 Construction Practice & Management
- Four optional units dependent on pathway taken (Construction, Building Services Engineering, Surveying and Civil Engineering).
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
This will depend on units taken. Lecturers will be able to advise students.
Two A-Levels at grade C or above, or BTEC National Level 3 qualification in Construction & The Built Environment, or previous relevant experience in the construction industry.
University Degree, Professional Qualification such as RICS or CIOB.
Continuing ongoing planned assignments and practical assignment tasks in some units.
The tuition fee stated is per year and may increase in following years. Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be provided at interview.
Student loans and financial support
Full-time and Part-time students from the UK/EU who are studying for a Higher Education course can apply to the Student Loans Company (www.slc.co.uk) for a Tuition Fee Loan for the full amount (this will be paid directly to the College). Additionally, Full-time UK-only students can apply for a Maintenance Loan (to cover living costs). The Government have also introduced the Maintenance Loans to Part-time students. Evidence of an approved loan must be provided at enrolment in the form of the Payment Advice letter provided by the Student Loans Company.
