This course is disciplined, practical, and offers a wide range of subject areas that will prepare students for careers within the uniformed services. Trips including residentials are organised to relate your learning to the world outside College which will include indoor climbing, water based sports and expeditions. The course is continuously assessed through assignments, practical project tasks and case studies. It uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local public services wherever possible. You will also take part in work experience or a work based project during non-college days.
This course is disciplined, practical, and offers a wide range of subject areas that will prepare students for careers within the Uniformed Public Services. These include the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, HM Prison Service, the Civil Service and the Coast Guard. The course includes a number of trips and visits that are designed to support learning within the classroom and enhance the student experience. Trips include visiting the Houses of Parliament, a self-guided crime tour of London, walking expeditions, the Imperial War Museum and outdoor adventurous activities.

This course is suitable for learners who can demonstrate the physical and mental robustness required for a career in the public/protective services. The course is often challenging, preparing learners for a sector that requires a positive mindset, resilience and discipline.
Uniform is mandatory and must be purchased at the beginning of the course.

- Criminal investigation procedures and practise
Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to complete a first aid qualification, and a Level 1 NICAS Climbing qualification. Other opportunities also will be available, which we will communicate throughout the course.
Students will also complete a 35-hour work experience or work-based project programme during the year. All units need to be passed in order to complete the qualification.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
You will need to purchase uniform including trousers, belt, polo shirts, hoodie, waterproof jacket and black boots.
Uniform can be ordered during enrolment. You will also need pens, paper and relevant stationery.
Please be aware that there will be a ÂŁ100 non-refundable course fee to cover expeditions, trips and any associated materials required to run the course, including practical lesson resources and assignment/revision materials. The fee will need to be paid at enrolment or within the first 4 weeks of term (by agreement), as expeditions, trips and visits are booked in advance. Please note that this fee does not include uniform. Further information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.
5 GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English and Maths or: BTEC NQF Level 2 Extended Certificate/BTEC QCF Level 2 Diploma Merit/Distinction and GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English and Maths.
Passing the first year of the course will allow you to move on to a Public Services Level 3 Extended Diploma, or another Level 3 course within the College. It can also lead to a range of Public Service careers including law enforcement, the military, fire service, outdoor education sector and health care. This qualification may also allow students to progress to higher education at university.
BTEC is a portfolio-based assessment programme that allows students to submit coursework at specific dates throughout the academic year. Assessment comes in a range of forms and includes external examinations,reports, practical assessment and observation, class tests, presentations, discussion seminars and practical projects and coursework.
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP and are studying a full-time course, do not have to pay a course fee.
Students aged 19+ (without an EHCP) may have to pay tuition fees. Please contact Client Services for more information.
