Day 4 of National Careers Week saw us welcome Tandridge District Council and University for the Creative Arts, who introduced our students to the wide range of opportunities available to them after college.Â
Tandridge District Council Highlights the Wide Range of Careers in Local Government
Shannon Davies from Tandridge District Council delivered a talk in our auditorium, highlighting that working for the council involves far more than simply dealing with bins and potholes. Students learned about the many different roles available within local government and the variety of career paths the sector can offer.Â

With opportunities such as apprenticeships and work experience placements available, it was encouraging to see so many students thinking about their future and exploring the different options open to them.
Shannon stated “It’s been really great to come here and help spread the word about careers in local government. It’s often a forgotten industry, and many people only hear about councils when something goes wrong or they receive a letter they’re unhappy about. In reality, there are so many different roles within the sector, from entry-level and administrative positions right through to executive leadership.”
UCA Inspires Students to Take Ownership of Their Work
We also welcomed Megan Burnage-Isherwood from UCA, who delivered an engaging talk about what university could look like for our creative students. She highlighted some of the universities impressive alumni, from fashion entrepreneur Karen Millen to Drag Race winner Leo Tsao. It was an inspiring session that encouraged our students to reflect on just how far their studies could take them.

Megan reminded students that “What truly matters is what you end up doing with your work, how you get yourself out there, how you network and the next steps you take.” prompting them to take their future into their own hands, be confident in their work, and seize opportunities to achieve the best possible outcomes.
