Engineering Employer Event at ESC

Engineering Employer Event at ESC

Date: 17 April 2024

Yesterday at East Surrey College, we hosted third Engineering Employer Event today, with an excellent turn out.

The session gave Engineering employers the opportunity to learn about changes to HND/HNC provisions this September, and voice their thoughts and ideas on how the changes can best suit them.

We also had two guest speakers, first was Dr Sahiti Silva who is the Subject Lead in Engineering Higher Education for Pearson Qualifications. She introduced the event and a broad outline of the rationale behind these new qualifications.

Followed by Katherine Jenkinson, joining us from the University of Portsmouth, she introduced the Top up Degree options that are available at the University including their “Learning at Work” degree courses.

We have a close relationship with the University with our current HND approved for direct entry into their Top Up degree as part of the Embedded Electronic Degree Apprenticeship.

Richard Brooks, Business Development & Project Manager at ESC said, “We were very pleased to welcome some of our employers to this event. It is important that employers have the opportunity to consult with the college and contribute to the development of the curriculum. These events greatly assist the college in meeting the needs of our local employers”.

All employers said it was a great opportunity to hear from other employers in the same industry who are offering apprenticeships provisions and how they could improve their own provision as well.
