Great Start in the 2024 Student Motorsport Challenge for Team ESC

Great Start in the 2024 Student Motorsport Challenge for Team ESC

Date: 08 April 2024

After the success of the 2023 season securing the constructors trophy. Team ESC have taken to the tracks again with a thrilling weekend at Snetteron race circuit where they took part in rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the Nankang City Car Cup and Student Motorsport Challenge.

The Challenge consists of a series of seven events and 14 rounds spread throughout the year. For the first event our students took part on the day, working alongside Motorsport tutors Bill Darnbrook and Stefan Mohamed in the pit stops. This provided students with a fantastic opportunity to see the mechanics behind the scenes and took turns holding up placement boards for the drivers.

Last weekend was an opportunity for our experienced existing students to train up our new students who joined us in September, as they will now be taking the reins throughout the season.

There was little in need of repairs this weekend, other than slight wing mirror damage and a wheel adjustment from a slight nudge between us and another team.

Jason Chapman Programme Manager for Motor vehicle at ESC added “The first weekend of the Student Motorsport Challenge has been successful it’s great to be apart off. Our students have worked incredibly hard, and it is fantastic to see their hard work paying off.”

The team could not be without our professional driver, Jack Wheeler, who has become very used to racing our car around the track.

The East Surrey College team took part in three races and came 4th in class for race 1 and 3rd for races 2 and 3. Our students and tutors will now focus on the next upcoming race within the Challenge on 25 May 2024 at Oulton Park International.
