Make Up & SFX Pro Masterclass

Make Up & SFX Pro Masterclass

Date: 23 January 2024

Our Make-Up, Special Effects & Hair for Media & Performance BA Top-up and HND Year 1 students had the opportunity to learn from the experts with an informative demo in our Theatrical Make-Up workshop!

Industry expert and former staff member, Hannah Callaghan has been working on the set of Netflix's The Witcher for several years now, making the bruised and battered elves believable. Hannah showed our students some of her ‘tricks of the trade’ and was even able to recommend the products she uses so that Students can get started themselves. Hannah spent over 2 and a half hours creating the look in front of the students, using silicon and blood effects skills.

Speaking to Hannah, she commented on her current pathway as a professional “It’s interesting exploring new areas and continually developing and building upon my skills repertoire. As a result of this I have been able to work on recent projects such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”.

Our BA Top-Up students are currently working towards a Beauty & The Beast inspired project, whilst the HND Year 1s are looking at Monsters & Myths. This workshop was a great opportunity for them to gain inspiration for their projects, whilst also studying aspects such as character design and development.

Course Tutor, Karen Fundell commented “Embedding industry practice into the curriculum by having workshops from previous students is an essential part of the curriculum. It enables students to see the success of our graduates, who are working in industry and gives them the opportunity to ask relevant questions about how to get into industry and how our previous students have navigated this.”

Final make up piece, that has an Elvish worn style

The deadline for UCAS Deadline is January 31st, however, there's still plenty of time to apply for all of our HE courses, and be able to attend these fantastic workshops from experts in the industry. If you are interested and want to find out more, click here.
