Valspar visit our Painting & Decorating students

Date: 01 December 2022

On Monday, our Painting and Decorating Level 2 students were involved in an interactive session with Valspar Trade. Valspar Trade is engaging with the next generation of painters and decorators to offer their time and industry insight.

On the day, students attended a welcome presentation with Richard and Rob from Valspar which included an overview of who they are, what goes into making paint and what makes a paint high quality. They went on to talk about the basics of colour theory and colour psychology, along with hints and tips when it comes to working with colour and helping customers. They also covered how colour tinting and colour matching works to help students be more confident when talking about colour.

The presentation ended with a fun and interactive quiz reflecting on what the students had learnt. The winner of the quiz won a goody bag to take home. During the presentation, there was an additional award to the student who was the most engaged. This went to Harley who won a £200 voucher to use on Valspar products in B&Q.

In the afternoon, the students were able to get involved with some practical work as they got their hands on some products and tested out a variety of Valspar paints in the painting and decorating workshop.

Richard Palmer, Head of Trade UK comments:

“We had amazing day at East Surrey College, the Facilities were fantastic, and the students were engaged in the activity we delivered. Janet, Joe, and Paddy made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble to get setup for us.

Overall, an amazing day and the students all got involved with questions and showed a real interest in the content we were delivering. The afternoon practical session was really interesting allowing them to use our products, whilst they got to show us how they are developing their skills. We are very much looking forward to coming back again soon.”
