Applied Science (Forensic) Level 3

Applied Science (Forensic) Level 3 - Callum

Former School(s): Carrington School (The Warwick School)

Callum initially joined East Surrey College on a Public Services course, as his chosen route of science was not yet available.

His decision to study at ESC was helped by location, but also with a visit to an Open Event, where he remarked that “the tutors really seemed like they had a background in the industry – they had actual experience as opposed to just having learnt it.”

When the Applied Science labs opened, Callum joined the Applied Science (Forensic) Level 3 course, looking forward to the chance to study in the brand-new laboratory facilities. His highlights of the course included:

"the practical side of the course and carrying out experiments in the labs. We also had the chance to visit different unis, and take a look at their high spec labs – it really helps you to decide what you want to specialise in.”

After completing the Level 3 qualification (and achieving the highest grade on his course!), Callum started work as a technician in the Applied Science department.

"I help set up for experiments - getting solutions and equipment ready, as well as ensuring the students are being safe. Having already studied the course really helps, as I'm familiar with the experiments they're carrying out."

After making the most of his time at ESC, where "no two days are the same," Callum is now progressing to employment with the NHS, in Diabetes Screening. He is particularly looking forward to "working with different patients – they’ve always got good stories to tell!”
