Health & Social Care Level 3

Health & Social Care Level 3 - Brenda

Former School(s): St Bede's School

Brenda had a place at her school's Sixth Form, but decided that College was more suited to her work style, and enrolled on Childcare Level 2

“At that point, I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I knew I enjoyed working with children, so thought that the course would be a good starting point.”

Halfway through the course, she started exploring various different career pathways in care and became interested in midwifery. Brenda decided to change to Health & Social Care Level 3 the year after, as she had been able to learn more about what the course involved by speaking with the tutors.

Now in the second year of Level 3, Brenda particularly enjoys her placements, and "being able to incorporate what I'm learning." Throughout the two year course, she has worked in elderly care homes, supported adults with learning difficulties, and helped a child with special education needs at a primary school.

At College, she has found that:

"The teaching is really good! The teachers become your friends and the small class numbers mean that support is easy to access."

She also commented that:

“In lessons, the tutors don’t just read off a presentation, but they’ll open it up for discussion and give examples.”

Brenda progressed on to the University of Surrey to study Midwifery, and is really enjoying her course - "it is the next step for getting closer to what I want to do."

"College has been progressive, confidence-boosting, and really informative!"
