Health & Social Care Level 3

Health & Social Care Level 3 - Maria

Former School: Harris Academy, Purley

Maria chose to study at the College as it provided her with the opportunity to gain work experience in the industry. She's always had an aspiration to work within Health & Social Care as a Social Worker or Counsellor, and knew this course would be a good starting point.

She chose ESC, as she really wanted to gain work experience in the industry, and found that other Colleges didn't offer this. She added, "The teaching is good and I really like the spacious areas available for students to learn in."

During her course, she completed work experience placements at Caterham Dene Hospital and a variety of care homes and day centres.

“Everything we learn on our course we can apply into placements. It provides you with more experience for when you do go into full-time work.”

Maria enjoys the Psychology unit in particular, which has given her more of an idea of what a Counselling career would entail. She added:

“I’m really enjoying my course. The smaller class sizes make it easier to interact with tutors. You get a lot of support from the tutors - they are always encouraging us to do what’s best for us.”

Maria has an unconditional offer to study Psychology and Criminology at University and hopes to eventually complete a Masters in Mental Health.
